AQG meeting March 12th

posted Mar 8, 2010 12:49 PM by AQG WebAdmin

Quilt Registration Deadline extended until March 12th

Due to forms not being available at the last meeting, quilt registration has been extended until this Friday.  Don’t miss this last opportunity to register all your quilts.  Simply complete the attached form, make 2 copies, keep the original for yourself and hand in the copies at guild meeting OR you may send them to AQG Quilt Registration, c/o Betty Chouinard, 28 Forest Street, Londonderry, NH 03053.

Want to sell some of your quilts in the auction?

You can do that by signing up.  Signups will be taken through April.  All items need to be new (never used) and must have a 6” sleeve.  The proceeds of the auction will be split equally between AQG Program and you.  You have the option of setting a reserve for your quilt, but you risk having your quilt returned to you if it doesn’t reach the reserve.

Have you committed to making a bag for the raffle table?

We have fourteen commitments and would like a few more.  Imagine how tempting it will be to buy raffle tickets when the quilt show attendees see thirty beautifully made bags filled based on all types of different themes.  Think beach bags, tote for kids, picnic bag, baby shower bag, casserole bag.  Contact Bridget with questions or send an email to bnmurphy73@comcast.net and put Raffle Bag in the subject line.  All proceeds from these bags will benefit the New England Quilt Museum.

Fat Quarter 50/50

We have right around 200 FQ’s in the “stash” and would love to see that number double or triple by the April meeting.  What do you need to do to help reach our goal?  Just bring in your fat quarters to the next quilt meeting.  For each fat quarter you bring in you will receive one chance to win 50% of all the fat quarters brought in that month.  We all have plenty of FQ’s sitting around and some of them we are not sure why we bought them – bring them in and take a chance of finding them a new home.

Volunteer at the Quilt Show

Signup sheets to volunteer a few hours of your time at quilt show are now available.  Sign up early to get the choice time in the area you would like to work in.  Help is needed with set-up, admissions, raffle table, refreshments, white glove, take down and the demonstration area.  Give Joy or Nancy a call or send them an email.

March 12th – NEQM Fundraiser

A reminder to all that a Silent Auction will be held on Friday night, March 12, at the general meeting.

We are actively looking for donated items such as (suggestions only): fat quarter stacks, a jelly roll or two, a group of books/patterns.  All items should be new.  Some examples of items already donated are: a collection of Michael Miller fabrics, a Quilters Club puzzle, a versa disk, a "Quilt in a Box", and a quilted purse.  Cash and checks only......no plastic

The monies collected will be used to augment bags for the raffle if needed, or added to the total amount being donated to NEQM.  Those who plan to donate items should contact Joy Whitaker at aqg.program@amoskeaqg.com or at home # 429-0862.

Show ‘n tell

Let’s see what you all have been working on.  Bring in what you started, worked on and finished at the last retreat. Bring in your latest project; show us what you and your bee mates have been working on.  March is a great month for show ‘n tell.

Workshops

So many of our members have discovered one of the great benefits of belonging to Amoskeag Quilters Guild.  Check out the prices of workshops in the area shops and you will know what it is.  What would you pay at a local shop for a full day workshop?  What would you pay at one of the large quilt shows?  The answer: a whole lot more than you will pay if you take the same workshop through the guild.

March 13 – full day workshop with Denise Goodman learning the Stack’n Whack process.  Cost is only $23 plus book  Seven seats available.

April 17 - full day workshop with “Yankee Quilts”.  Anne Gallo and Sue Raban will teach how to make a “Batik Wedding Quilt”. This is a quilt that looks fabulous using batiks, simple piecing with beautiful results. Take this workshop for only $40 plus book/pattern.  Eleven seats availab.e

Bus Trip

Don’t wait until it is too late to sign up for this bus trip!  What could be more fun than riding up to Maine to see the Augusta Civic center filled to the brim with fantastic quilts and vendors?  What could be more inspiring than to see all the different ways quilters put fabrics together to make works of art?  Find out how much fun and inspiration is to be had by joining us for our first annual trip to Maine Quilts – July 31.  We will be riding in a deluxe motor coach up to the Augusta Civic Center then stopping at Marden’s in Lewiston and then home with all our inspiration and purchases.  See Kathy DeSchuiteneer to sign up.  Payment of $37 is due at sign up and includes fun and inspiration as well as transportation costs, driver gratuity and quilt show admission.

Time for nominations – if interested in volunteering for a board position contact Beth Ditkoff.

As you know the guild cannot run without a board.  We need to fill the four officer positions at a minimum and a few of the committees to keep the guild alive and well.  If you have been a long time member and have not volunteered for a position or are a new member and want to get involved this is the place for you.

All board members should plan on attending the business meetings once a month every month except September.  The meetings usually run no longer than 1.5 hrs and are not formal although we try to stay on topic.  : )  Lots of ways to be part of the board from being an officer, to doing the newsletter, membership, program, library, website, marketing or even taking on the challenge of running the 2012 quilt show. (For a complete list refer to page 2 of the January newsletter.)  Please consider giving a year to the guild.

Banquet

Your banquet reservation form is now available for early bird sign ups.  We have a great evening planned for all attendees.  Appetizers, salad, your choice of Vegetable Lasagna or Chicken Marsala as well as some great entertainment are in the works for June 18th.  Come celebrate a great year with us

AQG is on the move!

The Grace Episcopal Church located on the corner of Lowell Street and Pine Street in Manchester is our new location for all meetings (general, business, and workshops).  The lighting both natural and overhead is great in the room where both our guild meetings and workshops will be held.  One entire wall is made up of windows and the overhead lights really brighten up the space at night.  The space can accommodate 140.  There is also loads of free parking on Friday evenings and Saturday's in the municipal parking lot right next door.
Starting with the September 18th guild meeting, all of our meetings will be held at the Grace Episcopal Church making use of the Great Hall for our workshops and general meetings.  Grace Episcopal Church is located at 106 Lowell Street.  Entrance is on Lowell Street right across from the municipal parking lot.  You can park for free at the leased spaces every evening and weekends so no need to feed any meters.  You should be aware that although the entrance is at ground level that there are 8 or 9 steps into the Great Hall.  Our hope is that this space will meet all guild needs in the years to come.
See you in September at our new location - Grace Episcopal Church, 106 Lowell Street, Manchester, NH
