Mission Statement

The Amoskeag Quilters’ Guild was founded in 1988 by a group of quilters to provide the opportunity for the education, appreciation and advancement of the art of quilting.  It is a not for profit group devoted to preserving the heritage of quilting through the above stated opportunities.  Membership is open to anyone without regard to race, sex, religion or age, who has an interest in quilts and/or quilting.  As an important resource for all of the region quilters, the guild is devoted to the purpose of educating the general public through its exhibitions and public programs in the art of and history of quilts and quilting.

Guild FAQs

We frequently receive the same questions.  So we've decided to answer them first!  Is one of your questions below?

What is a "GUILD"

The Webster's Dictionary defines a "guild" as "an association of people with similar interest or pursuits." Amoskeag Quilters Guild is just that, an association of people interested in quilts and quilting.

Isn't a quilt guild just a bunch of old ladies?

Actually, we laugh at that stereotype! The medium age of AQG members is approximated at 48 years old. The age of our members range from about 22 to "don't ask, don't tell!"

Do you sit around a frame and quilt at your meetings?

No, at our meetings we host speakers, have mini-workshops, have show 'n tell, develop friendships and through those friendships, expand our horizons.

Do I need to know how to quilt to join the guild?

For membership, we require only an interest in quilting. You will learn about quilting, but do not expect a classroom experience. To learn how to quilt: ask a quilting friend to teach you, or better yet, sign up for a beginner quilting class at a local quilt shop.

Can anyone join the guild?

Yes! Anyone who wants to join our group, can. For more details on how to join, visit our Membership area.

Can Non-Members attend a General guild meeting? Do I need to know a Guild Member first?

Everyone is welcome to attend our general guild meetings whether or not they know any of our guild members. And, you don't need to have a special invitation in order to come.

What are the particulars?

We meet at 7:15pm the third Friday of every month, September thru May and the meetings generally end around 9:30pm. Our annual banquet is the highly anticipated June meeting. Annual dues are twenty-five dollars.

I can't make the group meeting every month. Can I still be a member?

Absolutely! We have members who winter in the more temperate, southern climes. To keep in touch with the guild, we have our monthly Newsletter and this website. Members are granted access rights to the Members Only area of the website which has more guild specific details.

How big is the guild and why would I want to join?

There are several reasons why all of us (over 150 members) have joined this guild:

  • To expand our quilting knowledge
  • To share our quilting knowledge
  • To give and get support for all of our quilting endeavors
  • To be with people who appreciate the time and effort we put into our quilts
  • To meet people who "speak our language", and lastly
  • To make friends
