Mission Statement

The Amoskeag Quilters’ Guild was founded in 1988 by a group of quilters to provide the opportunity for the education, appreciation and advancement of the art of quilting.  It is a not for profit group devoted to preserving the heritage of quilting through the above stated opportunities.  Membership is open to anyone without regard to race, sex, religion or age, who has an interest in quilts and/or quilting.  As an important resource for all of the region quilters, the guild is devoted to the purpose of educating the general public through its exhibitions and public programs in the art of and history of quilts and quilting.

Meetings/Membership

Guild Meetings

We meet September through June on the third Friday of the month. Meetings are held at the Grace Episcopal Church, 106 Lowell Street, Manchester, NH 03104. You are welcome to attend two meetings before you must decide to become a member. When the program includes a speaker, guest fee is $5 and member fee is $3.

Meeting Agenda

Meetings start at 7:15 pm, often with a short business session during which the president, vice-president, and other officers report on guild activities. The minutes of the meetings are recorded by the secretary. The main part of the meeting then involves a guest speaker, quilting demonstrations, a fundraising activity, a holiday party or other events centered around quilting. Refreshments are provided during a break. Meetings often close with raffles and Show 'n Tell.

Sign-in

The membership committee is the first group you will see when you arrive at an AQG meeting. They greet guests and members and ask each of you to check in or sign your name in the guest book. Guests and visitors are welcome to attend two meetings prior to joining the guild. The membership committee collects dues for new members and renewals.

Door Prizes, Name Tags, and Other Fun

You are automatically given a door prize ticket for attending a meeting, and you get an extra door prize ticket for remembering your name tag. Name tags can be ordered through the guild or you can make one. We also have a 6 inch square raffle and a Block of the Month ("BOM") raffle at each meeting. The BOM is published in the guild newsletter.

Show ‘n Tell

Don’t be bashful! Most meetings include a show ‘n tell time when guild members can display recent projects for everyone to see. Ooohs and aaahs are not uncommon!! Show ‘n tell is a great deal of fun and everyone looks forward to it. Your show ‘n tell need not be limited to quilted items as we all have interests other than quilting.

Raffle Tickets

Tickets are sold before each meeting and at intermission for 5 tickets/$1.00. You are given a set of matching tickets – you keep one set and use the others for chances to win the item or items of your choice. Each item has a basket in front of it in which you can put your tickets. You can put them all in one basket or split them up. Members and local businesses often generously donate items for the raffle. Please contact the membership chairperson should you care to donate raffle items. Other items are purchased from raffle proceeds with the balance going to the treasury. By building this balance we can then invite speakers who would be of interest to all.

They are due no later than the October meeting of each year. Anyone joining after the February 1st meeting will pay half the annual dues which covers membership through June.  Currently, our annual membership dues are $25.
